Thanksgiving Day Feast

When I think of Thanksgiving the first thing that comes to mind is, "Cool, I don't have to go to work today!" But I also think about the feast that is being prepared in the kitchen. The smell of the Turkey roasting in the oven, the smell of the pumpkin pies cooling on the counter. Preparing the feast is what Thanksgiving is about. Not to mention, the sharing of the food with all of our loved ones. I am thankful that I am given these little blessings.

What really amazes me this Thanksgiving holiday, is the amount of really lazy people that want someone to cook their feast for them. I work in a small local deli. You would not believe the amount of people that want us to cook their Thanksgiving dinner for them.  Come on people, are you really that lazy? Oh, I know, your just too busy!! When you tell them that you are closed on Thanksgiving day, they look at you like "your kidding me right?" Well folks, we have families too. I don't care how busy you are, how lazy you are, or how much money you have. I will be home, helping with filling my house with the smells of the holiday and enjoying my family and friends.

This Thanksgiving I am thankful for many things. (1) I can afford to buy a turkey (2) I am healthy enough to be able to cook a turkey (3)I have the good fortune to sit at our table with my loved ones to enjoy the feast that we cooked for ourselves.

Laws that just don't make sense!

Some of our laws here in Indianapolis just don't make a bit of sense. Am I the only one that doesn't get it?

Lets take our seat belt laws for instance. When driving in my car, I must were a seatbelt, my children must be either in a seat belt or special seat. If caught without this, I recieve a ticket and a hefty little fine to go along with it. But yet, I can drive a motorcycle, no helmet, and can have my kid on the back and not recieve one of those hefty little fines. Not to mention, my grandkids ride a school bus, to and from school, that does not have seat belts. Does that mean that if the vehicle is owned by the city, my children don't have to be protected? Their bus driver wears a seat belt though. Make sense?

And lets talk about those annoying little scooters that are on the road today. If I want to have a motorcycle, I have to get a special liscense, and take a driving test. Not to mention you have to be at least 16 to have a drivers liscense. But, I can buy one of those scooters, drive them on any street, not be liscensed and best of all, I don't have to be a certain age. My 9 year old grandson could drive one of them. (That won't happen!) Make sense?

These are just two things right off the top of my head that just don't make any sense to me what so ever. I am sure there are many more. And I am sure I will think of them at some point. But for right now, I just want to know "WHY?" Where's the reasoning?

Going Back to School
Posted On 10/07/2008 09:56:31

Ok, so I got this bright idea to go back to school. I did my research and found a school that matched the degree I wanted. I decied to go with ITT Tech. They were really great about walking me through the steps to inroll and access the financing I needed. I am truley impressed.

Due to my work schedule and my uncompromising boss, I had to go with the online classes for now. This I thought would be the best. I had no idea. I am finding that taking classes online is not as easy as I had anticipated. Instead, it's a nightmare! I can't raise my hand and say, "Can you go over that again?" I have to depend on myself to get it right. I must say, that is not a good thing! I seem to miss things in translation. Sure I can email the instructor, wait for the reply and go from there. But with my schedule, I can't wait the 24 hours for my question to be answered. If I do, than my project will be put behind another day.

The amount of work involved is crazy. Sometimes I find myself saying, "You have got to be kidding me!" All this is expected in a week? If I didn't have a full time job it wouldn't be so bad. My life consists now of getting up, doing my class work, going to work. Day in and day out. I now spend my days off sitting at this computer trying to get all of my assignments completed and uploaded on time. I no longer have a social life. (Not that I had one before!)

I figure, If I can get through this semester, I can get through anything. This has definately been a learning experience for me. Next semester, I think I am going to actually go to a class. Not sure this online thing is for me.
